Installation procedure for the fencing poles. / Erection procedure for the fencing posts.

Nowadays, fencing poles are available in a variety of shapes and sizes, which are made up of different materials. Now let us look into the installation procedure for the fencing poles, which are common for all these available types.

Erection procedure :

1. After making the survey, we have to fix all the corner points of the land/site with the small rod or with the pegs.

2. Tie the lineout string to these corner points in a straight line, starting from one point and up to the next corner peg.

3. Mark the post-installation point, at a regular interval making a '+' mark along the tied string with the chalk/lime or available line-out powder. Marking should be at an equidistance ranging from 6 ft. to 10ft. depending upon the type of soil, no. of fencing wires, and tension provided to these wires.

4. The same procedure should be carried out between all the corner points.

5. Mark the pit in a circular shape as per the needed diameter. The diameter should be usually 3 times the post size. If the pole/post is of a 4-inch size, then the pit should be 12 inches in diameter.

6. After completion of pit marking, start digging the pit. The depth of the pit should not be less than 1/5th (20%) of the pole length and ideally, up to 1/4th(25%) of the length, varying from at least 30cm and up to 75cm.

7. After digging the pit of the required size, place a gravel layer of 3-4 cm, to eliminate the direct contact of the bottom of the pole with the soil. (see fig.)

8. Erect the post in the pit and boulders of various sizes should be compacted surrounding the post from all the sides in such a way that the post should stand vertical in its position with a firm grip. You have to use the plumb bob or spirit level to check the verticality of the post simultaneously at the time of packing the boulder and compacting them.

9. Repeat the process to make the pole intact in a vertical plane without tilting. Pour concrete of required strength up to the soil surface. The quantity of the concrete should be at least half (50%) of the pit depth and finish the surface with the trowel.

Note:

The specification given in the above fig. is applicable in ideal conditions.

10. As you can observe in the below drawing, first you have to erect poles at the corner point A, B, C, & D. By doing so, you can fix the inner posts between the two endpoints ( 1,2,3,4,---) easily. Tying the strings to the outer poles A & B,  the inner fencing poles are brought to a perfect horizontal axis. It saves our time and the installed poles give a neat and clean look.
