How to calculate the cutting length of diamond stirrups?/Diamond stirrup cutting length as per IS 2502.

 Let us now calculate the cutting length of the diamond stirrup as per IS 2502 for 135° & 90° hooks.

IS-2502 ( clause 3.1)

Given data:

Column width = 600mm,

Column depth = 500mm.

Clear cover = 40mm.

The diameter of the stirrup bar = d = 8mm.

Calculation:

The formula for cutting the length of a diamond stirrup having a 135° hook.

  = [4C + 24d.]

I have given the diamond stirrup drawing showing A, E, & C.

Here,
 C =√( A/2 )2 +( E/2 )2

First, we will calculate the value of A & E.

A = [ column depth - (2nos.× clear cover) - ( 2nos. × dia. of the stirrup bar).]

   = [ 500mm - (2nos.× 40mm) - (2nos. × 8mm) ]

    = [ 500mm - 80mm - 16mm ]

    = 404mm.

E =  [ column width - (2nos.× clear cover) - (2nos. × dia. of the stirrup bar).]

   = [ 600mm - (2nos.× 40mm) - (2nos. × 8mm) ]

    = [ 600mm - 80mm - 16mm ]

    = 504mm.

Now,

        =√( A/2 )2 +( E/2 )2

           =√( 404/2 )2 +( 504/2 )2

=√( 202 )2 +( 252 )2

=√ 40,804 + 63504

=√104,308

= 322.967 mm.

The cutting length of the diamond stirrup having 135° hook as per IS-2502

= [4C +24d]

= [(4 × 322.967mm ) + (24 × 8mm )]

    = [1291.868 + 192mm]

    = 1483.868 mm

    = 1.484m.

The cutting length formula for the diamond stirrup having a 90° hook as per IS-2502

            = [4C + 20d ]

           = [(4× 322.967 )+ ( 20 × 8mm)]

          = 1451.868mm = 1.451m.

Thank you for going through these calculation steps. Have a good day 😄.
