What is Nano white countertop?

 1. What is a nano-white?

Nano white is a type of crystalline glass, manufactured by using silica & other natural minerals. They are popularly known as G5, G7, exotic white, or artificial marble in the market.

The surface of these materials is hard & non-porous. They carry milky white color with a sheen & luster to provide an aesthetic appearance.

2. How does nano white is manufactured?

As nano-white is a crystalline glass, the manufacturing process is somewhat similar to the production process of regular glass.

A mixture of about 75% silica &  25% of other natural minerals is poured into the pre-designed molds. The molds are subjected to very high temperatures for a period of 24 to 28hrs. The temperatures are kept in the range of 1550°C to 1800°C.

After cooling, the hardened mass gets a glass-like smooth surface, having exotic white color.

3. What are the advantages & disadvantages of nano white?

Advantages:

1. Stain resistant.

2. Non-porous.

3. Easy to clean.

4. Very hard & long-lasting.

5. Acid resistant.

6. Gives a royal look to your kitchen.

7. The surface does not lose its shine & luster.

8. The milky white color does not fade or become dull after a period of time.

9. Eco-friendly & recyclable.

Disadvantages:

1. Nano-white needs special tools to cut & install the countertop. As nano white is a type of crystalline glass, the cutting & handling is a bit different than natural stones.

2. Skilled workers having working experience with nano white are needed for the installation process in the right way.

3. Expensive when compared to other natural stone countertops.

4. The joint line turns into blackish color after a period of time.

5. Care should be taken to maintain the countertop. In other words, this is a countertop material for delicate hands & not for rough handling & usage.

6. It may crack or edges may chip due to impact loads.

4. What are the different versions of nano white?

Over the years, nano white slabs are manufactured in improved versions, overcoming the drawbacks of the earlier versions.

The different versions of nano-white are,

●. Nano-white G3 👉 This version was very difficult to cut & it has black spots over its surface.

●. Nano-white G4 👉 This is slightly easier to cut than G3 & it does not contain any spots over the top finishings.

●. Nano-white G5 👉 It is milky white & easier to cut when compared to the G3 version.

●. Nano-white G7 👉 Exotic white color with a more shiny & hard surface.

5. Is nano white suitable for the countertop of Indian kitchens?

The answer is yes & also no. 😊

Let me explain why I have said so with the following points.

The answer will be yes if you follow the below-given instructions.

1. The nano white used for the kitchen countertop should be of the G7 & above version manufactured by the certified company.

2. The nano white should be installed as a second layer over the supporting base slab.

3. The installation work should be done by a skilled worker having a set of special tools.

4.  Special care should be taken to avoid any gaps or voids in between the base slab & nano white countertop.

5. The countertop should be free of any impact loads due to the usage of Khal Batta (mortar & pestle) or any other type of hammering-like work.

The answer will be no if you are doing the following things.

1. Using nano white of the older version supplied by any uncertified local manufacturer.

2. Installation of nano white countertop directly, without any supporting base layer of slab.

3. Installed by local mistri having nill experience with nano white material.

4. If you want to do the crushing or hammering work over the countertop.

5. If you are not good at handling the countertop delicately.

Note: The nano white may develop cracks making it worthless if you follow the above-given 5 points.

6. What is the cost of a nano-white slab?

The cost of nano white depends upon its thickness, slab size, brand name, nano white version, etc.

However, the cost of the latest version of nano white in the Indian market ranges from INR 350/- to INR 500/- per sq ft.
