Checklist for column after concreting. / Procedure to be followed for post concrete columns.

Following are the 7 checklist points for the columns after concreting ( post concrete ) work.

Before reading this article, it is better if you go through,

Checklist for column concreting./Procedure to be followed for concreting of columns.

1. De-shuttering:

The de-shuttering or stripping time of the column is 16-24 hours after concrete work. The formwork of all the concreted columns should be removed within 24 hours so that we can go for the next procedure.

To understand the stripping time in a better way, read the article,

Minimum de-shuttering period of formwork & props as per IS-456/Stripping time of column, beam, & slab.

2. Honeycomb:

If you find any honeycomb in the column concrete, the same should be repaired as per the specification. If you find larger size voids or gaps in the honeycomb of the column, which are not under safety standards, it is better to demolish the column.

3. Casted date:

Paint or mark the casted date over the column. This helps the worker to do the proper & complete curing of the column as specified.

4. Concrete Cube:

Within 24 hours, the concrete cube should be removed from its molds. These cubes should be kept in the water tank to complete their curing period as mentioned.

5. Curing:

The column should be properly covered with gunny bags or hessian cloth for curing purposes. Unless mentioned, the column should be cured at least for 14 days, by keeping the bags or cloth in completely wet condition.

To know the different types of curing in the construction field, go through,

Various methods of concrete curing/Different methods of concrete curing.

6.  Hacking:

Hacking of the column should be done within a 48 - 72 hours time period to gain the best results. All the required specifications for the hacking should be checked & maintained properly.

To know the hacking specification, go through the article,

What is hacking in civil construction?- Purpose & technical specification of hacking.

7. Cube test:

After the 7-day period, you have to test the concrete cube to know the strength of the column. If the cube fails in the test results, that particular column should be demolished. If the cube passes, you have to test the 2nd set of column cubes for the 28-day period to confirm the final strength of the column.

Thank you for going through this article. Have a good day😄.
