How to calculate the weight of an MS angle?

 If you are looking for a readymade weight calculator for the MS angle, then click here.

 For the calculation procedure, go through the following steps.👇

Let us consider the MS angle of size 75mm.× 75mm. × 6mm. as shown in the drawing.

Given data:

MS angle size = 75mm.× 75mm. × 6mm.

Length of MS angle = L = 1m.

Now, let us calculate the area of the MS angle in two parts as given below.

 Area A1 ( red colored)

 A1 = [depth (h) × thickness (t) ]

       = [75mm × 6mm.]

Converting it into meters,

      = [ 0.075m × 0.006m.]

 A1 = 0.00045sq.m.

The area A2 ( blue colored )

A2 = [{width - thickness ( t )} × thickness]

      = [ { w - t } × t]

      = [{75mm - 6mm} × 6mm.]

      = [69mm. × 6mm.]

Converting them into meters,

      =[ 0.069m × 0.006m ]

A2 = 0.000414 sq.m.

Total sectional area

A = [area A1 + area A2]

    =[0.00045 + 0.000414]

   = 0.000864 sq.m.

Now,

the volume of the MS angle

   = [Area (A) × Length (L)]

    = [0.000864sq.m. × 1m.]

    = 0.000864 cubic meters.

Weight of the MS angle

     = [volume × density]

     = [0.000864 cum. × 7850 kg/cum.]

(Here, the density of steel is taken as 7850kg/cum. for the calculation purpose.)

     = 6.78kg.

The weight of  MS angle / RMT = 6.78 kg.

Weight of the MS angle / RFT.

= [6.78 ÷ 3.281]

= 2.06 kg.
